In this video, I show how I setup my camera and flash to achieve proper exposure for Off Camera Flash portraits.
I do use High Speed Sync capable strobes, maybe I can discuss this further in another video if there are people interested.

Jason, this is amazing. I am going to be investing in an off camera flash light like this. I have one of those flashes on my camera itself. I notice your focus in your camera is like a bracket…how did you set that? I think you are using a Canon? I have a Mirrorless Canon and I just love your focal setting. It also looks like you have an extended battery? What lens are you using? Sorry for all the questions.

What kind of flash would you recommend for a casual user. I've had my eye on Godox AD200,400,600 variants just as a starter flash.

Sheesh. You made that so simple. Can't wait to start using off camera flash!
I'll never understand why people try to avoid noise like it's going to ruin their reputation as a photographer or an artist. Once you start shooting anything above ISO1600, then maybe they'll be something to really notice. But especially if you're shooting wide open, there's no need to need to be afraid of shooting higher ISOs if it's going to give you a good exposure. But, to each their own. It just baffles me when anyone tries to suggest or teach that "go as low as you can" mentality as if it's a crime to have any sort of noise in your photo at all. It's all an artform for sure, and we're free to do what we want to suit our style, but for those who are just starting out, they may get the misconception that noise in a photo is bad or makes them a "non-pro"…totally false. I've been shooting for almost 30 years and I'm not afraid to shoot up to 400 or even 800 if needed. And that was back in the day of still shooting 35mm film. Most modern cameras have much better noise to ISO ration than back in the day with older digital cameras or even some film stock. Don't be afraid of noise boys and girls. Excessive noise can ruin a shot for sure, but that's not really an issue until you start getting past 800 or 1600 depending on what you're shooting and the age of the camera.

You use canon true? Which flash? Godox? With my the r5 and godox ad 400 doesn’t work the high speed sincro
please do a beginner video on using a flash for the first time…the common mistakes, best practice, etc. like a dummy guide of some sort. pleeeeeeeease

You mentioned that "you can change the ambient light in camera by adjusting your shutter speed". This is NOT exactly an accurate statement.
You are shooting beyond your max sync speed, which means that adjusting shutter speed will change both, the ambient light as well as flash power.
Your statement is only true if you're at or below max sync speed.
Similarly, if you changed your aperture from the current setting, you will be cutting ambient and flash light.
This was such a helpful video and in only 5 min! I, too, was changing my flash settings and my camera settings. Now I have to find a model and practice. Thank you!

ill be honest I was skeptical in learning something new, with that said, I've been shooting 18 yrs and I just realized I shoot with the flash and I change the settings on my camera to compensate rather than changing the power of the flash like you showed in the video. The issue is that I shoot ETTL and you know how that goes, ill be shooting manual flash going forward!
Great video. Are you able to shoot in High Speed Sync with that flash? I’m having trouble getting mine to sync correctly in order to use HSS.
