When I started photographing people, I often focused heavily on the technical aspect of my images. Not until later, learning from my mentors, great portraits come from making a personal connection with each other.
Though every interaction won’t be magical, you will still struggle, but it’ll be a good practice. Portrait photography is so much more than just a pretty picture. Challenge yourself to capture the person’s essence.

Love it! You don't get many tips on how to just be a better "you" as a photographer. Love the idea of sunlight and shade too, it's something i've done in the past but not directly and consciously. Will definitely get out and shoot some (when the sun finally comes out! (Typical English Weather)) – Rich
I love you man! You just confirmed all the things I learned via trial and error (other than the be personable and communicate). While I am not getting paid (yet), I have learned that it is beneficial to be able to adapt to the circumstances given. We like to have total control, but that is not always possible. Adaptability is a great tool. I really liked the video.

This is a great beginngers insight for photographers, like myself to know how to prepare a session and build a relationship with our models or clients. I highly agree that it is important to make that connection with our models/clients because in the end they are the ones who can go to other folks and get us referred to other people. I'm totally gonna start making sure to find a time to sit with whoever is my model or client and just connect so then i can get a better feel of who they are and they can know more of their photographer. I've seen that i just go straight into the photoshoot and just really forget about the connection between photgrapher and client. Its had a good outcome the way ive done it, but I see that for myself I wanna know my clients better and see that we both can make something great!
