Bob Marley Oil Painting Portrait | The Story Behind the Legend

Bob Marley Oil Painting Portrait | The Story Behind the Legend

More than a month ago, I painted an oil portrait of Bob Marley, often called the “father of reggae music.” I chose this reference photo online because of his music, his life story, and the radiant, joyful smile captured in that moment.

During the painting process, I paired the video with reggae-style background music and narrated a story from Bob Marley’s life. His journey was remarkable, yet his life was cut short by cancer at the age of 36.

Reflecting on the fragility of life, this also reminded me of my younger brother, who passed away from cancer last year. On the final day of his life, as I drove him to the hospital, he was already too weak to eat—his body reduced to little more than skin and bone, and even speaking had become difficult. Sitting in the passenger seat, he carefully wiped his glasses, put them on, and said his last words:

“Let me take one last look at this world.”

We only come to this world once. After a hundred years, no one will remember that we were ever here… In the face of life and death, everything else feels insignificant.

Cherish the present. Do not let time slip away.
