Hello, friends!
Imagine the year 1871. Dieuze is a small town in Lorraine that has just been swallowed up by the German Empire after France’s defeat in the Franco-Prussian War. Amidst the chaos, 8-year-old Emile Friant, the son of a locksmith and a tailor, flees with his almost adopted mother, Madame Parisot, to Nancy. This widow of an apothecary had no children of her own and became the good angel of the Friant family. Later, the boy’s own family joined them. His house remained on the other side of the border, but it was here, in a free French city, that the boy’s talent would be revealed. This is how the war changed the course of his life-and perhaps the fate of European art.

Excellent video as usual but such puritanism to hide nude parts of paintings is ridiculous in 2025 : such anglo saxon inheritage is more than dated…
