In this video I show you exactly how I created a 1920s style off camera flash portrait of my friend Darcie using the MagBox Pro 42″ Octa, a Godox V860III speedlight and a smoke pellet!
All the photographs in this video were taken on my Sony A9II with my Sony 85mm f1.8 lens. I lit Darcie the model with the MagBox Pro 42″ Octa softbox.

Great video but can't you just turn the flash power to the lowest setting instead of using the ND gel?
Use a fog maker would help imo

The ND gel was a great idea!!
Would have been cool to see images with and without the grid. With the light being so close to the subject it seemed like the grid made the light much more harsh than you would expect for such a large source.

Nice video, such a coincidence that I actually had this idea to do an Audrey Hepburn 1920's style shoot just like this for about a month and ordered a similar outfit, but with delays of Christmas and New Years and coming from overseas I still have not got it. You need to invest in a smoke machine, they aren't that expensive and much easier to work with than smoke pellets, not to mention different liquids can give you more of a haze effect than thicker smoke like you got (I think smoke machine looks more natural smoke than those pellets).

That wand looking thing is quite literally called a cigarette holder. While men at that time had smokers jackets, to prevent ash from getting on their clothing, women did not. So the ladies used those opera length holders.
