How We Shot This Fashion Editorial With ONLY Natural Light | Photography BTS

Go behind the scenes of a fashion photoshoot using only natural light with model Megan Moran and creative director Aaliyah Hause, photographed on location at the Empire State Plaza in downtown Albany, New York.

In this photography BTS, I take you behind the camera to show how we created a high-fashion editorial look without strobes, flashes, or a complicated lighting setup. We worked entirely with available natural light, strong architecture, creative posing, composition, and direction to build the final images.

But this shoot is about more than camera settings and lighting.

I also break down the value of having a creative director and photography assistant on set, especially when you’re trying to produce stronger editorial work. A great creative director can help shape the visual concept, wardrobe, posing, movement, details, and overall story of a shoot, while an assistant gives the photographer more freedom to concentrate on composition, lighting, communication, and capturing the image.
