Wow thank you so much! So simple. I’ve been doing the setup where you position the flash 45 degrees to the model / subject, and aiming the softbox down at them. My question to you is, if I invest in a reflector like yours, could that still be used and work in the same fashion as yours? Definitely will try the butterfly setup too, but just wondering 🙂

your images are so much nice. i used pretty much the same settings (little wider aperture for shallower DOF on the backdrop) but theyre missing something…

newbie to studio photography here… one problem i’m running into and can’t find any answers to is how do you focus/compose with it being so dark before the image is shot? with an EVF like the sony has (i also shoot sony), under exposing for the ambient light leads to my EVF/LCD screen being completely dark. at apertures like f8 i just have no light to compose with. i’ve seen using continuous lights as modeling lamps, but isn’t it counterintuitive to have to turn the lamp on and off for every shot you take or every time you want to change the composition? maybe there’s something big i’m missing that’s right in front of me. thanks for any help! this video was great 🙏🏼 EDIT: i should note that my “studio” is a spare bedroom so i’m limited on space. this could be a factor that plays into this. at most my light can be feet or so away from my backdrop/model

I hope you can help me. I have a canon 600d which only has 18 mp and the canon 50 mm 1.8 lens. I am going from hobby to getting paid as a photographer. So I am thinking I need to go full frame and was thinking of canon mark 5 d IV, with a canon 24 70 2.8 lens. I photograph families, kids, newborn and maternity and noticed that many others who shoot that, is using similar gear. Would this be the right choice for me? I photograph a lot outside, so I need it to work well in low light too. I need to upgrade, because I want sharper and more professional looking images. Also, I have the canon 430 ex speedlight and want to use it outside off camera, how big an umbrella will work on that?

I know you have mentioned shooting "models" before, but It would be great to hear something from you on the deeper lighting challenges that come from shooting common faces, and age considerations… I don't think anyone has done a good perspective tutorial in an actual setting, like a corporate shoot… you aced it again with very good advice and astounding images!

Am I the only one having trouble with this? With the camera set to eliminate all ambient light, it can't see the subject anymore thus can't focus and second, I can't see at all what I am shooting.
