In reality, this is not that easy. If she shared her straight out of camera photos, they would probably look like the crap, we all look at, when we try this. She most likely used AI and advanced post processing.

With PS you don’t need the flashlight coz it will do all the things for you
I saw a photographer at the arboretum today using a few box lights for a shoot he was doing, and I was confused as to why—this totally makes sense! The overall image isn’t much brighter, but it highlights what needs highlighting without blowing anything out. Definitely need to find a decent, compact little flash for my hot shoe. Great short!

Flash is harder to master but can take your photography to another level. With fast glass you can get that smooth blurry background and great detail.

Honestly just skip ETTL and invest a bit of your time learning how to use the flash in Manual. It's so much more versatile and you (obviously) have more creative control over your photos.
Also, photos with the flash directed at the subject aren't always bad, but you usually get much more flattering images when you bounce the light off a white surface from a side angle or through a soft box onto the subject.
** This was definitely a learning moment in more ways than one. Aperture priority. 2.5 on a 1.8 lens while setting your camera's ISO @100. All while using a flash ETTL outdoors. All great starting points **
