UPDATE – PART 2 is here!!!
Hi everyone!
Just wanted to make a really simple tutorial for beginners to get started with portrait painting on Procreate. If you do not have facetune you can always just skip that part and go straight into tracing at 4:45
DISCLAIMER – for those of you who don’t watch the entire video and kept insisting that it’s copying/cheating/ fraud etc without listening to my explanation I feel compelled to explain again. In a painting process there’s a couple of stages –
1. Getting familiar with the software is Procreate
2. Drawing
3. Grayscale
4. Color
5. Brushwork
6. Finishing
this method involves tracing and color picking which takes away the learning process of drawing, grayscale and color stages so that you can focus on learning the software, brushwork and finishing. It shouldn’t be used as a crutch forever but a good way to get started and learn from this process. If you are interested in learning the hard way you can watch my other tutorials not labeled as beginner. Leaving negative comments would discourage other artists wanting to start from zero. I will not be replying any negative comments. Don’t wanna keep repeating and explaining myself.
Enjoy the tutorial today!
Please credit me if you use my brushes or color palettes!
Beginners, pls watch the Procreate basic series if you’re new to procreate.

The Brushes are Not Free
I didn't get the mail to install smudge tool
When I was in grade school, I learn to draw by tracing in art subject. At high school, I started copying my favorite characters and at college, I started to make fanarts, original characters and so on. After a decade of break in art, yesterday I started to do digital art again. I started with a butterfly. I never draw a butterfly. The tutorial i was following asked to get a reference and trace it because it focuses on animation anyway. After that, now I can draw a butterfly, without a reference, with my own style. Tracing is a good start to learn, its about remembering the stroke, the details, and the minor details you wouldnt know that exist once you start tracing.
Worthless
You’re a great teacher 🙂
GORGEOUS 😮😂😅😢😊
Is it good to start by tracing? I’m struggling with making nice clean sketches and don’t know how to get better
I'm having trouble during the Painting part, the painting brush gives too faint/opaque of colors unless I "stabbed" the screen. Anyone know any tips to use it correctly?
I can’t find the free brushes or the image
"Im gonna teach you this really, really easy portrait"…Me: 👁👄👁
Would love if you made a bit more detailed tutorial because I was not able to follow this super well
I don't trace because I love drawing freehand, even if my proportions are slightly different. But I'll definitely use this painting technique. I sketched the portrait in coloured pencil today, took a photo and uploaded it to my iPad canvas. I'll add the original photo to pick the colours and learn to paint using your technique. Super helpful for learning to block tones. Thanks so much for this tutorial❤❤🩷
When I went to university to study graphic design we had illustration classes, and we would trace over images to learn different techniques of colouring ✨😌 amazing vid! Ty!
Beautiful 🤩
When I took oil classes we used a grid or sometimes we didn’t even had to draw, the books came with the lineart
Hey Haze! I have been following you for a few months and have acquired several of your brush packs :)! Just wanted to tell you that i am IN LOVE with your Sketch brush’s !!! Thank you so much for all you share and teach us!
I need that sketch brush how do I find it ???
Such an amazing tutorial honestly. Learnt so much ❤
Como artista, antes de hacer una comision aclaro que no hago ilustraciones realistas. Siento que no estoy siendo sincera
i remember watching this video in 2020 when i first started digital art and couldn’t draw without tracing so i did this method every single day till i felt confident enough to just color drop from the image without tracing ♥️ now i can completely draw a realistic portrait from scratch 😁
its tooooo hard😢 the amount of steps…my brain is about to explode🤯
