I'm intrigued as to why your shutter speeds are so high and above 1/800 and your ISO above 400? for portraits ? Your models didn't seem to be moving that much ? Could you help me understand ?
As a wedding photographer, I can 100% confirm all of your points. It's all about experience, experience, and more experience. Pro tip: When scouting for a location, apps like Suntracker are super helpful for tracking the sun's movement (and timing). Some apps even have AR.
I find these tips are more guided towards portrait photography with MODELS. if you are taking portrait of ordinary people like your family and your loeved ones, then preproduction preps, tighter framing, etc doesn't really help. Often times you want to be in the moment with the subject. Also tight framing gives too much focus on the subject and too much focus on the subject when the subject is not a professional model sometimes creates unnecessary distractions and you may lose the 'mood'. So not all portraits are the same, and these tips are not universal to all situations of portrait photography

I comment in an older post but this one is new and I saw you use a flash. My s5iix doest shoot in burst with the strobe on. just take one picture and it hurts my work to capture action shots

Great photography info. But why don’t portrait models ever smile? Being actually happy would also make a photograph more interesting. Seems like a sad reflection of the modern cultures’ values.
I disagree at 5:41. I think the left slightly cropped in is nicer than the right especially with how striking and beautiful the flowers above are.

There are great but I think there's one thing you're not mentioning which is critical. You models are all drop dead gorgeous. I mean, you could put Mathilda inside a garbage bin and the shot would still look amazing. Yes, composition, lens, light, f stop, framing, etc, etc all matter. But jeez, gorgeous models make everything twice as easy.

I think it requires a great sense of self-worth and awareness of what you know and what you can do. Thanks for the tips! How do you answer this question when a model asks you for the files you don't select because she knows photoshop and wants to "play" with them? Or she asks for all of the files? How do you answer that tactfully? Thank you!

amazing tips! the background one is one of my most taught tips. "Growing as a photographer is paying more attention to your background through the viewfinder than your subject." (lol) and practice! seems so simple but so many people dont do it… crazy to me!

I take great portraits because I only take pictures of attractive people.
You should do a video where you don't work with models but with regular people to see how you pose them. It seems like all your videos you're working with someone who already knows how to pose and look good in front of the camera making your photos look extra good already.

Thanks Julia, great content. However, you did not mention my number 1 mistake! I have a really nice camera and I have customised all the function buttons. I have function buttons for Face and Eye detection. I know exactly how my camera works yet, everytime that I take someone's portrait, I forget to hit that button 🤯.

Secret advice – use 1.2F-1.4F with focal leght 85mm++ = done!

What a graceful model!
IMy professional portrait photography friend took a photo of me and my dad at a carnival and then I grabbed the camera and took a photo of her and my dad in the same spot and I was blown away how different the photos looked and the settings were exactly the same! It was a 35mm lens and she knew exactly where to stand, how high to hold the camera, what angle to face it and probably a bunch of other stuff I was oblivious to but that experience really shocked me, I thought my photography was coming on but the Neo in me obviously hasn't woken up yet!!

Always love the videos, however, I want to see real people not models. Shooting beautiful women that know how to pose is way easier than shooting awkward people.
