#Tip: Sometimes, you want to set up fast for a simple portrait photo. If you use a ring light, then your set can be ready in a few seconds. At the same time, you can do many things wrong with a ring light. The results are bad photos. We see them often on Facebook. In this video, I am answering a question from our Facebook group. It’s about budget ring light for indoor portraiture. While I am happy to present a budget-friendly LED ring light that I am using, I will also highlight the top 3 mistakes you can make with that.

Luminar is so slow! I only pick my favorite 10-20 pictures and import them as jpegs to edit them in Luminar.

Hey Michael, another awesome video and good team work as always 👏. I agree with you about Luminar “capability”, it won’t replace Lightroom anytime soon but a brilliant extension for it. The AI stuffs work really well but it cooks the CPU like no tomorrow and too slow for my liking.

Thanks, Mike, for the tips: 2 feet distance from the ring light to the subject, and placing the ring light a bit higher, not horizontal to the center of the face.
One concern i have is that the subject face might be distorted when the lens is only 2 feet away. You have to use a wide angle lens to get that close. What do you think? Thanks again. Always enjoy your vids.
I know ring lights have become a trend with new YouTube-trained photographers, but I absolutely HATE those ring catchlights! Maybe a ring light is okay if you're a kid doing a make-up video, but otherwise, look for better lighting. You can get a cheap off-camera flash with trigger for less than the cost of this ring light. But thanks for showing the proper way t use one, Michael and Emily.
