In this video, I compared the portrait mode on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with a DSLR with a 50mm Portrait Lens shooting at the widest aperture of f/1.8.
The purpose of the test is to see how natural the artificial bokeh looks on the S22 Ultra with the setting set to maximum blur. Samsung claims they’ve improved on edge detection, and that does seem like the case here!

DSLR win all the way
No smartphone can get even close to an entry level DSLR. Smartphone camera sensors are so tiny that they can't deal with noise, especially in low light. Also the dynamic range of their lenses is really limited and wuite poor. On a phone screen the comparison is impressive! However, on a bigger screen the limitations are pretty clear.
Look at the 3rd photo, near the branches. You can see the S22 edge detection fails.

I have s22 ultra and canon EOS R and depending on the situation the s22ultra gives better results. Considering how versatile phone cameras are and when you don't have time to decide on the lens and settings pull out the ozone and snap . 2 seconds and you have amazing results. But of course sensor size, glass, the know how and full Manuel control.
