Dark Background Portraits (Low Key) – Off Camera Flash / Strobist Photography Tutorial –
Off camera flash tutorial on how to make the background of your image completely black using off camera flashes, even though you are in a brightly lit area, or you do not have a black backdrop. This is called LOW KEY LIGHTING. The concept is simple. All you have to do is set your exposure so that your image is completely black. Do this without even touching the flash. Once you do this, you can add the flash in. Try to put the light close to your subject, and have a narrow beam to avoid spill into the background. In this video, I start off with one flash for a dramatic look, and add a second flash for more separation.
