Have you upgraded the size of your Octabox or do you use the one that comes in the kit? Does elinchrome accept other brands for modifiers?

I have a question, Iโ€™m a beginner outdoor portrait photographer. Are these systems portable?

Sound advice. I our Studio weโ€™ve almost completely standardized on Profoto, but I can imagine that beginners donโ€™t want to fork out $4,000+ for starters. Godox has really nice affordable kits, but if you can spare the extra money, Elinchrome is an excellent choice. They have a very wide selection of good quality modifiers that stand the test of time well esp. when you have to unpack and pack every time (what most beginners need to do). Their transmitter works very well with almost all brands of cameras and is also compatible with Rotolight should you ever wish to extend to continuous light and with the lightmeters of Sekonic. On top of that Elinchrome has decent customer support. Something that Godox sometimes seems to lack (depending on in which country you live). By the way, the original Bowens went out of business in 2017 and the name was acquired by an investment company (also owning Calumet). The Bowens gear is now produced in China at a much lower quality standard than before. Theyโ€™re more in the range of Godox nowadays. Or even belowโ€ฆ
PS. almost all lower-priced kits come with rubbish stands these days. Youโ€™re best off to invest another $250 in good stands. Either way, donโ€™t attach booms on these standard stands, as they easily tumble over.

Really good video. Thank you. Iโ€™ve gone the inexpensive route of Godox speed lights and umbrella soft boxes, but Iโ€™m only using that for the occasional family and friend headshots and portraits. Iโ€™ve been very happy with Godox, and the price is reasonable enough to buy backups if I have a canโ€™t fail job.

Would you suggest getting 400w lights? I wasnโ€™t sure whether Iโ€™d get a 200w (possibly the godox 200pro)

Iโ€™m curious what your experience has been with the elinchrom modeling bulbs and modeling bulb fuses over the years? We use those dlite 400 lights and it seem s they eat modeling bulbs and fuses. I wish the OEM bulbs were built a bit better.
