Note: I should have taken more pains to pronounce the editor's name (Mark Guiducci) – I'm generally a big proponent of pronouncing names correctly and showing respect in that way; I was in a rush to film this video and get it out on a day when I was running kids around all day and working in the fringe hours so I didn't slow down to try harder, totally an oversight on my part!
One piece that’s easy to lose is just how unglamorous the White House really is. It’s old, has issues, and it’s totally imperfect. Among other things, I love that these photos demystify the White House itself.
That side shot of Marco Rubio looking down frames him just like Michael at the end of The Blair Witch Project when he is in that basement at the end of the film. Chef's Kiss!
The close up of the younger woman being the most talked about tracks. In this day and age, the reality of it must have been disconcerning. She is not ugly, she actually has some pretty features, but it’s jarring to see such a realistic close up in this day and age. Brilliant work.
21:11 I wanna look at the comparison of Martin Scorsese and Stephen Miller here they have roughly the same lighting and setup but the way they act tells two completely different stories. Miller looks like he's trying really hard to be super serious maybe even a little threatening and to most it comes off as creepy. Scorsese in the same lighting looks a little bored, he doesn't look creepy at all, honestly he looks friendly more than anything and it tells you so much about who they are as people. They weren't told to look this way they just did.
I think this is definitely a study in not analyzing what people are saying but what they're thinking. The people in the comments are saying these images are ugly or intentionally made awful, but the thing is that these are just who these people are. There's no editing or purposefulness to these people's appearances. These are the real actual faces of these people as they chose to show up that day to be photographed and this is the environment they work in every day. This is what we should expect of photos of our politicians. The fact people are saying they're ugly or look like ghouls only shows what they personally think of them, not what the photographer intended.
The lack of editing is really commendable. It is the raw images of the white house and their staff and what we think of them means more than anything the photographer was trying to do.
I probably just explained photojournalism but like it's something not a lot of people think about, me included.
I wondered if the photographer asked them to pose how they thought best.
This is an administration that doesn’t like information or advice from the “elite“ of any topic. This is an administration that thinks that they know better. I wonder if he’s showing us what happens when these people are running the show?
In a sense, this is one way to take AI aside. No AI needed.

Yes, you nailed it. This is the first assignment in photojournalism: on how to capture a person's personality in photographs. it's the hardest photograph to take. Christopher Anderson captures the best of photojournalism. And yes, AI doesn't have the emotions for these pictures. Photojournalism is alive and kicking. Thanks.

I actually think this are among the most beautiful photos I've seen. They scream real in the mid if the uncanny world of AI. They show humanity not ideas. They are powerful and raw. You may like or dislike this people but you should never forget they are as human as you are. This photos show that and it is perfect.
Just a suggestion. He has gone not he has went into the White House.
The detail and artistry in these, and your analysis, are one of the biggest reasons AI will never be able to replace artists.
