Urban Garage Photoshoot: Sigma 35mm vs. 50mm F1.2 — Which One Will You Choose?

In this video, I take you behind the scenes of a gritty urban garage photoshoot where I put two powerhouse portrait lenses head-to-head: the Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN Art and the Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art. Both lenses are known for their incredible sharpness, creamy bokeh, and fast aperture—but which one shines in a real-world fashion shoot?

🎥 Gear Used in This Video:

Camera: Nikon Z8 (with Neewer ETZ adapter)

Lenses: Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN Art & Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art (Sony E-mount)

Lighting: 2x Godox AD200 + AD-B2 bracket

Modifier: Godox 12.2″ Wide-Angle Reflector

🆚 Lens Breakdown — 35mm vs 50mm:

Similarities:

Both f/1.2 — stunning low-light performance & creamy bokeh

Same build quality & fast autofocus performance

Exceptional edge-to-edge sharpness

Differences:

35mm: Wider frame, includes more background, great for storytelling & editorial looks

50mm: Classic portrait focal length, better compression, ideal for isolating the subject

Field of View: 35mm = ~63°, 50mm = ~47° (on full-frame)

Distortion: Slight barrel distortion at 35mm, more natural rendering at 50mm

✨ Whether you’re into cinematic wide-angle portraits or classic headshots with beautiful bokeh, this video will help you decide which lens suits your vision.

    It's not easy.

For me, 50mm narrowly won out here 3-2.

Good job bro, love both those lenses. But that 50 1.2 is my favorite.

I'm a 35mm type of guy but that 50 has the perfect background compression for the final result.

Nice to see that you can use a 35mm lens and get some nice bokeh 🙌🏾

Even though I enjoy a good 35mm shot any day, that 50mm just brought the background closer. But like you said, for video, yeah definitely! But good work and great model!
