On cold winters day, being in a warm studio is very appealing. In this video photographer Gavin Hoey shows you how to add warmth to a small home studio shoot by making use of a warm tone wooden background, fabric flooring and and orange colored gel. Gavin also balances the brightness of the flash with 200 battery powered Christmas lights to create a festive feeling portrait.
After the shoot Gavin takes you into Photoshop to do some fine tuning and covers non-destructive cloning to hide the fairy light battery boxes with extra LED’s and add a creative lens flare effect.

I was in an indoor photoshoot and after the main shoot was over, Client wanted a similar warm looking shot with two lanterns with candle. I tried many methods but couldn’t achieve the desired results. So I searched and found this video and learned a lot from this. Thanks a lot Gavin for putting up this tutorial.

Gavin, in this video, you had the room light turned off completely; while in some other video, you would crank up the shutter speed to make the room darker. With this method, wouldn't it be harder to focus since the room is darker? Thanks for your reply!
Great video! I've got a question: how do you get the camera to autofocus relieably in such a low light situation? My A7 is really struggling even with the AF-Light on…
a longer exposure on a tripod, using rear curtain flash sync will let change a lot more settings.

Can I ask, how much would you expect to pay a model for a shoot like that. Now I realise some models are more expensive than others but just a ball park figure.
I've got a few young ladies lined up who are not models but are willing to pose and will most likely do it just for a copy of the photos but if I wanted to pay them or indeed if one wanted some renumeration what would be reasonable.?
