As a Canon fan, I have to admit the Zeiss 35 is better than 35L mark II.

so since the sony FE 35mm 1.8 vs the 35mm 1.4 are very similar, won't it make more sense to go the sony route so you don't have to spend a lot more money on L series glass? it's also a LOT lighter, and along with the ibis its a no brainer in my opinion.

Hi Julia, as always, loving your educational tutorials! I do have a question for you – is there a particular reason you flick your wrist just before snapping each photo? I've noticed it in quite a few of your videos and wondered if there is a technical reason for it, or if it is just a habit πŸ™ƒ. Really curious to hear from you as I am very intrigued!

One would have to compare the Canon vs the ZE version, or the Sony Zeiss vs Canon lens with adapter.

I guess under that circumstances, Zeiss would crush the Canon, if the comparative of telephotos is anything to go by.

I far prefer the output of the Sony lens over the Canon lens in your shots. It's funny that the Sony Zeiss is not well known as being sharp in the Sony community compared to some other available lenses. Mine was not as sharp as my 16-35mm GM at f2.8 in the corners so I sold it out (I don't do portraits; I do landscapes). Many people love its rendering though and compared to the Canon lens, I now see why they praise it. The Canon lens looks soft in an unrealistic way in comparison. The world as I see with my own eyes isn't soft like the output of this Canon lens (like somebody needs prescription glasses, lol). If I want a soft skin tone, I know when to add it: in post processing. Bokeh-wise, they are pretty much in the same level as far as I see in the large scale and care about.
There are now many alternative for fast primes in that range for the Sony system: The two Sigma 40mm f1.4 and 35mm f1.2 are being praised for their sharpness and rendering, particularly the latter. I think portrait photographers should really check out this lens.
For those who want the Sony Zeiss but find it too expensive, look into the used market. Some who owned it are selling theirs to get a Sigma one or for other reasons. Good deals on this lens are easily found in the used market.

EF 35mm f1.4L II is a really good lens, holding well against the mighty Zeiss lens. Very excited to see how the RF 35mm could be even better

Could be the reason that Sony ads more presharpening and Contrast to their raw file, than Canon? And in some pics you see more details at the Sony pics, it's bright parts are also more direction overexposed than the less detailed Canon Pic… So just more exposion more details in darkness but less in bright parts. That's just my personal observation… Anyway thanks for the nice video

I bought the 1dx mkII along with some glass including the 35 1.4 II . Owning the Sony a7III as well I had to sell the 1dx 3 months after I bought it. 8 out of 10 times I was graping my a7III over the 1dx. Mostly because of the weight and size . Now I am stuck taking photos with the Canon 35 mkII on the a7III . I prefer Canon glass … But until Canon get serious with their bodies .. I am going out with Sony Canon and a Sigma in between. (Sigma MC-11 adaptor)

Hi! I just found your channel and i have been binging all your videos. I am really really intrigued in photography and i am teaching myself about photography for the past few years. Finding you will seriously help me. I shoot on a Galaxy s10+ smartphone which isnt no DSLR but it isnt no stranger to great shots if you know how to use it. I mostly do scenery and flowers and trees and all that jazz. I am afraid tho. I do not have no photography background or nothing. I am self taught as i stated above. I want to start a mini business for like close family friends and friends of friends etc. But i feel pressured to buy a DSLR and they are EXPENSIVE. So i have just been practicing with new environments and starting to dabble in portrait photography with people witch to me is easier cause you can move them…you can move a tree haha. But im just wondering if you have any tips for me. I want to get out there and become serious about it but a smartphone camera wont work im pretty sure. How did you get started in your business? Thank you.

I notice you're outside but not using an ND filter? On my entry level Canon SL2 I could never get away with that. Do you have any tutorials using filters?

Sony Zeiss is made by Sony. Proper Zeiss lens these days are made by Cosina. Apart from no AF a Zeiss Milvus 35mm f1.4 would trump the Canon 35mm f1.4 MkII.
